Campers hear "strange howling/hooting" sounds

The witness and a companion were backpack camping overnight at Loon Lake. Sometime during the night the witness heard a strange howling and hooting sound from a meadow about 100 yards north of camp and listened for some time. The witness did not recognize the sound as a known local animal. After returning home the witness compared it to online clips and judged it similar to an Estacada recording.

Rafters on Salmon River hear strange sounds

The witness was with a rafting group camped overnight on a sandy riverbank. After dinner the forest went quiet, a foul odor was noticed, and a loud moan rising to a scream was heard, followed by a distant answering call. The guides suggested a cougar, kept a large fire going all night, and the group felt uneasy and watched the next morning before continuing downriver.

The Database of Unexplained Encounters. Claims are recorded as claims: the Anomadex catalogues what people reported, where it was reported, and how sure I am that it was read correctly. It does not rule on what they saw.

A quick ask from the person behind the Anomadex: if you allow analytics, Google Analytics shows me which places, phenomena and searches you're most curious about. That tells me which regions and sources to add next and what to make easier to find. It never sees your name or anything you send me, and nothing is set unless you say yes. Privacy
