The witness was driving east in the morning when a large dark silhouette walked across the road in four long strides and then vanished. Both sides of the road were thick woods with no house or mailbox present. The witness returned that afternoon to search the spot but found no trace.

The witness was searching for relics with metal detectors in a swampy coastal area when separated from two companions. He reports hearing two loud deep ape-like whoops followed by stick-against-tree impacts about 100 yards away and then again farther toward the river. The witness was hunting feral pigs from a stand on a dike in a South Carolina swamp in the late afternoon. He heard loud, rapid ape-like 'ooow' vocalizations from the swamp behind him, after which other animal sounds stopped and wildlife fled. He left the stand before dark and later reported finding no tracks on the soft sandy road.
