Bicyclist observes upright, hairy creature use branches to help itself climb embankment

The witness was coasting silently on a bicycle on a mountain road when an animal was seen crossing ahead. At close range the witness noted long dark hair and watched it grasp separate tree branches with both hands to climb an embankment. Concluding it was not a bear, the witness turned the bicycle around and rode away fast without being noticed.
