The witness and a companion were waiting on a riverbank at night to help pull rescue canoes from the water. After hearing brush-breaking and grunting sounds for some time, the witness was rushed by a large upright figure that came within about 10 feet while making loud vocalizations. Both individuals fled and the figure did not pursue further.

Man recalls close encounter at dusk as a youth near Macon
The witness and a companion were walking home from a creek at dusk when they heard loud approaching footsteps and movement through pines. A large hairy bipedal creature emerged on their side of a gully and jogged toward them on the path. After watching for a few seconds, the two fled to the nearby house.
