Description of several strange encounters along Sleeping Bear Dunes National Shoreline
Late at night the witness and a companion were in a boat on a lake when large rocks began splashing in the water near them. After several close splashes they heard loud splashing steps running away along the shoreline on two legs. They started the boat and left, stating the forested swamp shoreline was not accessible to people and the cause was not human or fish.

While on a multi-day canoe trip, the witness pulled onto a sandy bank at dusk to camp and fish. About ten minutes after a prior animal encounter, an unseen source came to the rim of the bank above camp and screamed twice, then screamed once more after a short pause before going silent. The witness readied a pistol but did not see the source and did not look for tracks the next day.

Late at night in August 1998, the witness and her sister were driving on a rural road when a tall hairy figure crossed the road in two steps in front of them. Both occupants saw it and immediately agreed on what they had seen. They described it as about seven to eight feet tall, covered in brownish hair with silvery tips, with very long arms, a hunched head with no visible face, and a hurried, determined walk. They drove quickly to a relative's house and later recounted matching details.

A driver and passenger stopped on a dirt road through woods when several large dogs crossed in front of the car and trotted toward a dark object in a field. The object stood up as a very tall, bulky, dark-gray hair-covered figure with long arms and no visible neck, which the dogs greeted excitedly. The figure then moved quickly into the adjacent woods with long bent-legged strides and exaggerated arm swings while both occupants watched in shock without speaking.
