Late at night the witness sat alone by an outdoor fire when he heard a loud, powerful howling sound coming from the wooded valley below. The sound repeated several times over about a minute and seemed to be projected in different directions. He judged it unlike familiar local animals and listened for another half hour without hearing it again.
Possible sighting by two at a strip mine in the Koppel Strip Mines
The witness and a companion were in a wooded strip mine area in the morning when they heard a loud groaning sound. They went to check for someone hurt and saw a large brown figure standing about six feet tall. The witness yelled to scare it, the figure looked at them and then ran off into the mines. They searched for about an hour without seeing it again.
Daytime sighting at Labaron Lake, Fishlake National Forest
The witness and a companion were fishing at a lake in the morning when they noticed a dark brown animal drinking at the water's edge about 200 yards away. The animal then stood up and moved into the woods walking like a human, appearing broad-shouldered and muscular. They watched it briefly for about 10 seconds before leaving camp hurriedly.
Tracks found by family hunting for arrowheads
The witness was searching for arrowheads with companions when alerted to an unusual track near a small cedar tree. He describes a large human-like left footprint with only three toes impressed in soil, larger than his own boot, plus a second fainter matching print nearby. He interpreted the distance between prints as a long stride that would have cleared the small tree.
