After thefts of food and disappearances of women and children, tribal leaders sent mounted warriors to confront man-like beasts. The party rode for hours and charged a group seen from a hilltop amid a strong smell of decay and a mound of victims. Gunfire and hand fighting left the creatures and their captain dead, and survivors buried the dead.

Residents near a pond woke to find three miniature horses dead, one apparently thrown across a fenced pond with only throat wounds. A large dog on a running chain across the street was also killed and thrown down a gully, and a neighbor reportedly lost a calf. Residents reported hearing woman-like screams and said officials could not explain the lack of tracks or noise.
