The witness stayed longer, photographed deer, then inspected the spot and estimated size from the fallen tree but found no tracks.

He became frightened as it got dark and returned to camp without seeing the source.

The witness was hunting elk with a muzzleloader several miles north of a ski area as snow began to fall. From a small canyon he heard chimp-like huffing and chattering that seemed to come from three individuals on both sides of the ravine. He tried to see the sources as the sounds kept moving ahead with him but saw nothing, then returned to camp as the storm worsened and daylight faded.
