Three companions hiked several miles into old-growth forest at the base of Mt. St. Helens in midday snow conditions. They reported finding twisted trees, saplings torn down and woven over a creek, and numerous large bare footprints in snow. The largest print was taped at 21 inches and dwarfed the witness's boot, but attempted photos failed due to snow glare.

During the night while trying to sleep, the witness heard a loud yelling sound from the ridge to the north, then heard it again several minutes later. The witness drove to the end of a forest road and walked to the river to fish alone in the morning. After casting, he heard cracking across the river and saw bushes moving and a large brown figure without clear details. Two trees snapped and fell uphill as the figure moved upslope into dense forest, and the frightened witness left the area quickly.

The witness was hunting elk along a ridge trail and noting elk, coyote, cougar and deer sign. About a mile from a spur road, just off the trail behind a small tree, the witness found an unusually large dark tubular scat that did not match known animals. The dogs stayed beside the witness and would not investigate, and the witness then went inside for the night.

After waiting and trying their own knocks without response, they heard something run through the woods sounding bipedal at a sprint. After the sounds stopped he climbed down, glassed the area without seeing anything, and later left apples on a stump that were gone when he retrieved the stand.

The animal was described as large, but its size could not be judged because of a steep slope, and no tracks or hair were found afterward.

The witness and his wife were driving in the Greenwater area so the witness could hike up a snowy dirt road to look for sunglasses lost the previous winter. While hiking he found a line of unusually deep footprints with a long uphill stride. At the top where snow had melted, the last print was a clear impression in frozen mud showing five toes, arch and heel. He went back downhill to bring his wife to view the tracks.

The witness regularly walked a wooded trail near office buildings during lunch. One afternoon in May 1999 the witness found a young tree freshly snapped off high up and laid across the trail to block it, with no sign of sawing, wind, or vehicle contact. The witness showed the scene to a coworker the next day and cleared the trail, and later wondered whether the damage could be related to Bigfoot. No creature was seen and no footprints or hair were checked.
