The witness recalls numerous puzzling occurrences from 30-40 years ago on a family farm of about 100 acres with orchards and woods. These included trees reportedly moved to block trails, an elaborate woven arch structure, large human-like footprints with long strides, rocks and a branch thrown near the witness, loud clicking exchanges, and nighttime disturbances around the barn and house. No creature was reportedly seen clearly, and the interpretation as possible Sasquatch activity developed over later years.

Two hunters camping on a remote barrier island awoke in their tent at night to the sound of bipedal footsteps approaching. After silence, something struck their tent and they exited with lights to see a dark, man-sized figure running toward the marsh. They chased it to the marsh edge but could not catch it, and noted a musky odor. They later verified no other boats were present and concluded a person could not have been out in the freezing conditions.

Late one evening in 1976, a neighbor arriving home reportedly found a large hairy dark man-like creature on his porch. The creature fled when headlights hit it and leaped over a six-foot fence. The neighbor's wife had been inside holding a pistol after hearing something pull on the screen door. The witness's father then saw the creature run and leap a wide creek, hearing a grunt on landing, before it disappeared.

On a January 1976 afternoon the witness walked alone to a country club hill to sled. At the top he found bare footprints in snow with clear toe and heel outlines, sunk deep and spaced about three of his strides apart, running north to south into trees. He felt uneasy, sledded once, felt scared and as if watched while leaving, and headed home.

In 1976 while stationed at a military installation, the witness was sent to search along the river for a runaway dependent. In fresh snow in heavy cover the party found very large footprints, which the witness and another MP followed a short distance. They stopped after encountering a fresh-garbage-like stench and did not report the prints officially for fear of career repercussions.

While deer hunting in the morning, the witness and a companion heard loud noise from a wooded gully and then met an elderly hunter climbing out. The elderly hunter appeared pale and frightened and told them he had just seen a huge bigfoot at the bottom and had dropped his rifle while fleeing. The witness and companion later recovered the abandoned scoped rifle, but the elderly hunter kept walking away and left.
Hiker encounters large footprints
In the early spring of 1976 the witness was hiking uphill from a cabin when they found very large flat-footed tracks in soft dirt in a Ponderosa Pine forest. The tracks were fairly deep and appeared to come up the hillside from the cabin area. The witness did not see the track-maker and later read library publications about prior regional sightings.

While heading back to their truck at dusk during an elk hunt, the witness and a companion felt watched and heard a loud scream lasting several minutes from behind trees, along with banging and branch breaking. They hid behind boulders with rifles but nothing emerged. They then left for the truck about a half mile away.

Two witnesses were paddling a rowboat along a brushy creek at night to check limb lines. They heard something moving with them in the dense brush along the bank. A large rock was thrown downward and landed in the water in front of their boat, after which they left the area.

The witness and three companions were coon hunting at night with three hounds along a logging road beside a swamp. The dogs yelped in fear and ran past the group back toward the truck. The group heard a deep growl and loud limb breaking and wood knocking moving toward them from the swamp, then left the woods and found the dogs shaking in their boxes on the truck.

The witness was riding in a vehicle with three relatives on a wooded road after sundown. As the vehicle came around a curve, the headlights illuminated a creature standing on a creek bank by a wooden bridge. The creature looked toward the vehicle, its eyes caught in the headlights, then turned and walked away.
Memory told of a possible encounter while coon hunting near Houston
On a moonlit night in late October 1975, the witness was coon hunting along a ridge when both dogs became frightened and stayed by him. He heard a low moaning sound, a rock-throw-like crash into a brush pile, two tree-strike-like impacts, and something moving through leaves down a steep wooded slope. He called out but saw nothing and ended the hunt.

Around 1975 the witness was at a hunting camp late at night with two relatives when they heard a loud strange call moving through the woods. They moved to a nearby field to try to intercept the source as it approached to about 100 yards. The calling then stopped and nothing was seen or crossed the road, so they waited without further result.

The witness was traveling with family members when their vehicle pulled over and everyone got out. The group noticed many large footprints in sand along a small river leading uphill toward the forest. They then heard a noise from the ridge across the river and briefly saw a large creature moving bipedally over the ridge out of sight, after which they got back in the vehicle and left.

The witness was walking home from pheasant hunting on a ridge before dark. He noticed a dark upright figure about a quarter-mile away walking toward the mountains. He shouted twice; it turned its whole upper body to look at him once, then kept walking. He watched for about 15 minutes until it disappeared, speculating it had been lying down before standing up.

In the summer of 1975 the witness took a visiting relative to a clear-cut to camp. From timber across the cut they heard an extremely loud, deep roar. The witness fired a revolver into the air to scare what was thought to be a bear, but the roaring grew louder and faster, prompting the group to pack up and leave without ever seeing the source.

Three boys were hiking back up a hollow after a day of fishing when they heard rustling on a logging road above them. Large boulders then came down the hillside toward them, prompting them to flee uphill. As they ran, the writer glanced back and saw a large black shape disappearing over the hillside.

A youth camping group spent the night in a clearing near dense blackberry brush. Late at night the reporter and companions heard movement approaching through the brush, then retreated to sleeping bags. Overnight two unseen creatures reportedly entered camp, vocalized softly, disturbed food supplies, and stepped on and touched one sleeping girl who remained awake while others slept. At dawn no footprints were found on dry ground.
