Campers hear strange late night sounds near Florence Lake
After fishing, the witness and a companion set up camp for the night and sat by a campfire after dark. They heard a low horn-like sound that seemed to approach from a ledge behind the camp. They then briefly saw a pair of pale glowing eyes in that direction. After a warning shout and a warning shot, they quickly packed up, extinguished the fire, and drove home.

Just before dark a loud crashing noise approached the camp from the creek, and the witness banged cooking pots to scare it away. About ten minutes later a loud drawn-out scream was heard from across the lake. The witness stated the scream was unfamiliar despite lifelong familiarity with local wildlife sounds.

The witness hiked to a deer stand while hearing repeated groups of clicking sounds for about 45 minutes but could not locate the source on the ridge. While walking back out of the woods, the witness heard something large approach and stop behind them. The unseen source then made a very loud close grunt and, after the witness chambered a round, a loud guttural scream/grunt. The witness never saw the source.

A flashlight revealed nothing and the steps resumed, approaching close before loud guttural yelps and moaning described as a cry for help were heard. After remaining awake and still for an extended period the witnesses fell asleep, later heard a large splash in the river, and found no tracks in the morning.

The witness was archery hunting on a trail at dusk after separating from a companion to go different directions. After hearing an unfamiliar deep yelping sound and then loud wood-splintering, the witness saw a head-and-shoulders shape with no visible neck beyond a log. When the shape swiveled slightly, the witness backed away and returned quickly to the vehicle, visibly frightened.

As children searching for a trail to a nearby plaza, the witness and a friend heard a noise and saw three tan-colored, unclothed, upright figures jogging in single file on a ridge above them. The figures were larger than a very large man and moved away at moderate speed during an encounter lasting about 20 seconds. The boys then left the woods quickly and returned to the friend's house.

Later that night while sleeping in the overhead camper bed she awoke to the camper being nudged and heard a deep sniffing sound outside at the level of the sleeping area. Her husband slept through it, and no tracks were found because the snow was packed to ice.

After going to sleep, both were awakened by repeated knocking and pushing sensations against the shelter that continued intermittently until about 3 a.m. The witness checked outside with a flashlight but saw nothing, and a morning search found no damage or tracks, so they left without staying another night.

The witness and a friend went out at night to search for the witness's father who had not returned from fishing. While searching along the creek they heard an unfamiliar clicking sound and saw two sets of large red eyes on the far river bank. They found the father deceased beside his boat and later learned he had suffered a heart attack. The witness believed the unknown creatures were watching over his father and had helped him locate the body.

The witness was walking alone at night on a pond path toward a cabin when he heard footfalls and breaking twigs that stopped when he stopped and resumed closer each time he walked. He shouted and then ran toward a clearing near the director's trailer while the sounds followed closely, including breathing heard from above head height behind him. On reaching the clearing the sounds retreated into the woods and went silent. The director was told and fired several shots, suggesting an escaped exotic cat as an explanation.
