They remained still in the tent while the close calls continued for several minutes before silence returned. In the morning they found their fuel can neatly covered with stacked stones and a stringered fish missing, which they attributed to the unseen caller.

In August 1984 four teenagers were camping overnight on a wooded ridge when they heard unexplained noises and their dogs became agitated. A very loud yell came from just behind their lean-to, which shook visibly, causing the group to flee through the dark woods. The next day the group found the lean-to torn down, the fire pit rocks scattered, and a strong wet-dog-like odor at the site.

Over several days and nights they reported heavy impacts, rustling, a skunk-like odor, red eyeshine, wood knocks, whistles, talk-like mumbling, a whoop-ending vocalization, and bent trees and branch structures. The most intense moment was a predawn episode with a deep guttural roar followed by a scream-like sound near camp. They left early after smelling the odor again near a plum thicket.

The witness reported a brief glimpse of a long shaggy finger-like shape through the vent screen, and said the sounds withdrew when a car approached and returned later.

In February 1977 five youths camped in two VW buses at a remote, densely forested campground in the Trinity Alps. On two consecutive nights around 10:30 p.m., something rushed down the steep hill behind camp and violently rocked the bus the witness slept in. The first morning packs were found strewn and torn open; the second night a large boulder was found wedged behind the bus tire and the other bus had shifted about five feet toward the river. The group reported seeing nothing because windows were iced over, noting only hillside skid marks, rushing noises, and a brief strong odor before leaving early.

The intruder then fled over a cedar fence as the dogs pursued, leaving a strong foul odor. Next morning the witness found a flattened flowerbed and trellis, a toppled lumber stack, and a tuft of hair of uncertain origin on the fence.
