Hunter scouting locations has a possible encounter near Buhl
The witness was walking north on an old railroad track through swamp while hunting when howls from the woods paralleled the movement. About a half mile ahead a large black figure was seen in the road, initially thought to be a bear. As the witness closed to about 100 yards the figure stood upright on two legs, moved into a ditch and tall grass, pausing to sway and look back toward the road while howling continued, before leaving into the swamp. Feeling nervous and sensing another presence behind, the witness left the area.

The witness was asleep at home when a very loud screaming and howling sound woke him around 3 a.m. He went to the front door to listen as the sound quieted, describing it as similar to recorded whoop-howls and unlike coyotes he had heard before. The witness's sled dogs then erupted in howling. The witness looked out the window but saw nothing, and the next day searched for tracks but found none, noting three stripped beaver carcasses with skeletons stacked facing the same way.

Two people drove a pickup down a remote logging trail and stopped at a washed-out bridge. From across the bridge they heard loud screams and howls that grew closer, along with crashing and breaking branches. Believing something was approaching them, they ran back to the truck, locked the doors, and drove away.

The witness was on a cabin deck in the evening before sunset when they heard a very loud, long howl coming from the east. The sound occurred 2 or 3 times and was described as louder and longer than a wolf could make. The witness went inside to get another person to listen but believes they were the only one who heard it.
