Possible "Ohio howls" south of Shingletown (midway between Redding and Lassen)
While living at Manton from 1987-1989, the witness's family repeatedly heard strange howls in the evening 2-3 times a week. The sound was thought at the time to come from the cleared swath up the hill along the penstock or powerlines. Years later the witness and family heard the Ohio howl recording and judged it exactly the same sound.

The witness and a companion were feeding horses late at night in deep winter snow. After the witness howled to elicit coyote replies, a very loud, deep howl answered from the hillside behind. The witness could not see the source with a weak flashlight and described it as unlike any dog, coyote, or wolf, later believing it was a bigfoot.

The witness and about ten friends were camping at Rainbow Falls State Park during the summer. After the campfire was out, the witness and one companion lay awake in a tent and heard a distant high-pitched howling sound they joked sounded like screeching tires. Years later the witness heard a Puyallup recording on a research site and felt it sounded almost identical to that night.
