Around midnight they heard bipedal footsteps, grunting, whistling, whoops and reciprocal tree knocks, smelled a strong foul odor, and had small sticks thrown at their position. After a shot was fired into the ground, heavy running was heard moving toward the second position where glowing eyes were seen, and the group left around 2 a.m.

The figure faced the witness briefly then moved out of the light into the woods, and the witness went back inside.

A large black hairy figure standing a short distance beyond the rabbit fled rapidly downhill through the woods, making loud noise. The animal then appeared to trip and fall hard, scrambled up, and ran away with a long heavy stride. After daylight he found only scuffed ground where it had fallen and noted no other animals were present.

In hindsight he wondered whether the figure was also fleeing and had simply taken the same path.
