He returned to find his companions asleep and did not report the incident until later.

Shortly after, they heard something moving bipedally through the woods toward the screams, loudly breaking sticks and branches. They stayed in place listening for almost an hour before leaving.

They watched it run away through a cornfield for several seconds until it went over or through a fence and disappeared.
