While camping with relatives in swampy woods, the witness heard prolonged screaming and strange noises through the night that frightened the group. They were unable to leave due to muddy roads and remained in camp until morning. At first light they found small trees snapped over, grass flattened, and what they described as huge footprints.

The witness and a relative parked a heavy flatbed truck in a wooded area to sleep for a few hours before fishing at dawn. Around 5 a.m. something shook the truck violently side to side several times, waking both occupants. They smelled a strong rancid odor, saw nothing in the darkness, and stayed in the cab until daylight before leaving without checking for tracks.

The witness, his mother, younger brother, and dog were hiking a trail while camping in a Mendocino County state park. They heard something moving parallel to them, then heard loud wooden knocks followed by a loud guttural huff from near a tree. Without seeing the source, they ran back to camp.

In 1978 the witness was prospecting alone on a mountain trail and was overcome by intense fear. The witness left the trail, knelt and covered the eyes while something bipedal approached, paused nearby, then continued downhill. The witness did not look until it had left and therefore never saw it.

The witness was sleeping alone in a mobile home on a timbered property at night. They were awakened by loud, heavy bipedal footsteps circling the home on pine needles and remained in bed with a rifle out of fear. After a time the footsteps left, and the witness fell back asleep until morning without seeing what made them.

Around 2 a.m. on a fall night in 1978, the witness and a relative went to the corral to check on panicked horses, suspecting a bear. They heard something crashing away into brush and found a corral-post tree snapped over with large human-like footprints around its base. They concluded the prints were not from a bear and later wiped them out while telling other family members it was a bear.

The witness was following a companion on a snowmobile off trail at night when a headlight revealed a tall hairy figure standing beside a small cedar tree with a hand on the trunk. The figure turned its head to watch the riders as they passed very close. The witness left quickly with the companion and returned with relatives the next morning, finding large footprints where the figure had stood.

During a holiday visit in heavy snow, the witness was awakened around 2 a.m. by a very loud, prolonged scream from outside the bedroom window. The witness stayed frozen listening, then found other household members awake, and was told it was probably a cat under the house. The next morning new snow covered the area, and later checks found no sign of cats, leading the witness to note its similarity to recorded alleged vocalizations.

The witness and two relatives were playing poker inside a hunting cabin at night when a loud bang struck the side door followed by an unfamiliar loud scream-howl from outside. They armed themselves and opened the door with flashlights but saw nothing, only hearing something walk away into the woods and smelling a wet-dog-like odor. They chose not to follow it.

The witness arrived before sunrise on opening day to bow-hunt from a tree stand at the edge of a bean field. While in the stand the witness heard loud bipedal footsteps moving through dense saplings and then saw a tall hair-covered figure standing about 20 yards away. The two stared at each other for several minutes before the figure walked away, after which the witness fled to a companion's vehicle and did not return.

A witness at recreational cabins reported hearing very loud, high-pitched screaming for approximately two minutes around 1 a.m. The sound was estimated to originate from less than 50 meters away. The cabin was in the southeast portion of a lake with no other cabins behind it.

In 1977 the witness, an Army instructor at Fort Lewis, was alone grading trainees on a night exercise when he smelled a foul rotten-egg odor and heard brush rustling and branches breaking. He saw a pair of eyes staring at him as a creature moved left to right in front of him, then left the area, after which the odor and sounds stopped. He was frightened and hid, and a next-day search found no tracks.
Memory told of a possible sighting while parked in a car near Granite City
While a dating couple sat talking in a parked car near woods and lakes, the woman saw a large dark figure standing behind the car about 10 to 15 feet away. She reacted with sudden shock and told her companion what she had seen. The figure moved away and had disappeared by the time both occupants looked back, so only the woman directly saw it.
Witness reports seeing footprints as a child
As a young child, the witness was helping a relative with weed clearing in a bean field while another relative operated harvesting machinery. They found a line of very large human-like footprints with an unusually long stride leading toward the house and showed them to the other relative. The family contacted authorities, many local people came to view the prints, and the witness recalls being frightened afterward.

Six teenagers were camped by a creek for overnight fishing and sat around a bonfire late in the evening. They heard footsteps approaching along the creek bed, noticed a strong unpleasant odor, and watched a very tall two-legged shadow circle their camp at a distance before continuing along the creek. They remained silent during the passing and did not search for tracks the next morning.

In 1977 two companions hunting frogs at a remote pond heard a roar and saw trees moving. One saw a large brown hairy form partly hidden behind a cedar tree and swaying. Both fled on foot while hearing heavy thuds, and one saw a large rock bouncing nearby. A few days later they returned and found a cleared limb bed and a limb torn from a mesquite tree, but no footprints due to rocky ground.

On a dark night in August 1977, the witness was walking back to hunting camp near two lakes when he stopped at a creek to find the trail. He heard a low growl, called out thinking it was companions, then heard a louder deeper growl/moan and vigorous thrashing and shaking of nearby bushes to his right. He jumped across the creek and ran to camp without seeing the source.
Lots of tracks found while fishing
Five people fishing in a remote creek area found about half a dozen very large footprints that appeared to be about a week old. The tracks ran from the creek across sandy soil toward rocky brush and were described as about 17 inches long and 10 inches wide. Casts were later made from the tracks and the find was reported in newspapers.

In August 1977 the witness was walking along Waterloo Road at night after missing a ride and trying to hitchhike. He heard something moving through the woods alongside the road that sounded bipedal and kept pace with him, running when he ran and walking when he walked, for about a mile. The night was very dark and he never saw the source, eventually getting a ride near houses.
