Two companions on a caribou hunt watched from a ridge with binoculars as a large grey animal on hind legs crossed a distant clearing between spruce trees over about half an hour. They lost sight of it when caribou entered the area and it moved into heavy brush. After the hunt, a bush pilot suggested the description matched the Iliamna region's 'Hairy Man' known to local native people.

While on a multi-day canoe trip, the witness pulled onto a sandy bank at dusk to camp and fish. About ten minutes after a prior animal encounter, an unseen source came to the rim of the bank above camp and screamed twice, then screamed once more after a short pause before going silent. While smoking outside under a tree late at night, the witness and companion heard prolonged loud moaning howls coming from behind a neighboring house. The sound lasted at least two minutes and was unlike any familiar local animal. Frightened, they ran inside, after which the sound could no longer be heard.

The witness and a family member were trying to sleep in a camp trailer during an archery deer hunting trip when they heard loud, piercing, wavering screams from the woods behind the trailer. The screams occurred three or four times and did not match any familiar animal sounds. They inspected the area the next day but found nothing unusual.

The witness, an experienced hunter, said he had never heard anything like it and his companion was very frightened. They stopped hunting for the day and returned to camp without seeing the source.

The witness was sleeping in a large reenactment camp in forested hills when loud, deep howling woke him. The sounds first came from a distant ridge and about an hour later came from much closer down the road, waking many others in camp. The witness loaded his weapon before falling back asleep and heard the sounds move farther away twice more. No tracks were found the next morning.

The witness and relatives stopped at a meadow while fishing and scouting for elk sign. The witness found three large fresh scats of unrecognized plant-based material and a large humanlike footprint beside one scat. The cousin and two teenagers also viewed the track, photos were taken and the scats were collected for later examination.

The witness then saw a large bulky standing figure with head, arms, torso and legs about 30 yards away on the trail. When the witness brought the companion to look the figure was gone, then a similar scream sounded from close behind and another call answered from ahead. The pair quickly covered the fire and drove out.

The account includes reddish eyes and an estimated height of at least eight feet. The reporter, who did not see the creature, relayed the hunter's description along with related track and scream reports from the same mountain area.

Two companions hiked 2 to 3 miles into isolated terrain to scout bear-hunting locations. While crossing a breached beaver dam they found three sets of very fresh, large tracks in soft mud with long strides that left the mud and climbed a steep rocky hill. They reported feeling watched shortly before the find, felt shaken, and left the area quickly with no further incident.

A couple starting a barbecue fire at their ranch heard repeated deep, low-frequency hollers from the direction of the pasture tree line. Horses in the pasture ran toward the couple and appeared spooked. The couple put out the fire and left, estimating the source was no more than a quarter-mile away.

While hiking alone during bow season, the witness followed a strong odor to a sunlit dried-pond clearing. From the treeline about 25-35 yards away, the witness watched a dark seated shape shift back and forth as if focused on something in the grass ahead of it. Unsure whether it was a stump, cow, or moose, the witness returned to camp and noted the camp dog acted unusually nervous.

The witness was horseback riding with a companion through woods in the hills when she felt watched. She then noticed a large human-like figure deep in the woods beside the trail. She did not tell the companion at the time but urged a faster pace and later told a relative. The witness now avoids riding alone in those hills.

Three people camping while bear hunting heard loud howls and screams from the treeline surrounding their camp at night. The sounds appeared to circle the camp and continued despite banging pots and pans and firing a shotgun into the air. The group packed up and waited in their truck until about 4 a.m. while the sounds persisted, then left. They later found openly left food untouched and found no tracks.

The witness hiked into a wilderness lake to fish from the shore. While fishing, the witness noticed a very foul odor, then heard sounds like something striking a tree, followed by a high-pitched howling/scream-like sound and more tree-striking sounds. Feeling watched and unnerved, the witness left the area, and on the trail out noticed fresh broken branches on a pine tree.
Huge human-like footprints discovered
The witness and a companion hiked into a remote area beside Cedar Lake to collect ancient amber. While wading along the flooded shoreline the day after hiking in, they found fresh, huge human-like footprints in a sandy area that led west into the swamp. The prints were described as 14-15 inches long, narrow for their length, with a running stride and deep depressions. They recorded the prints and surrounding swamp with a video camera.
Sequence of loud vocalizations heard by campers
The witness took two young relatives camping overnight near an old logging road and storm-damaged trees. During the evening and night the group repeatedly heard unidentified noises and guttural patterned calls that seemed to get responses from farther away. In the morning the companions briefly saw something near bushes that froze then moved into shadow, and the group stopped after hearing a rock crash nearby. No footprints were found on the hard ground.
