Rocks thrown at two hikers on Heather Lake Trail
Around 2001 the witness and a companion hiked Heather Lake Trail in the late afternoon as the last hikers on the trail. While taking turns stepping away to urinate near the top, each had a rock thrown at them from an unseen source. As they hurried and then ran back down, they heard heavy stomping and breaking branches moving parallel to them, and another rock was thrown after they briefly hid behind a tree, prompting them to flee to their car frightened.

Two elk hunters stopped to wash in a creek off a forest road and found a single very large footprint in soft sandy soil. The print was estimated to be much larger and deeper than an adult's print and lacked clear toe marks. No animal was seen, and no other tracks are described.

The witness was sleeping at a relative's house near Wayne National Forest in late November 1998 and awoke around 2:23 a.m. to hollow thudding like a branch or log struck against a tree trunk. The knocks came from a draw below the house and from farther away in alternating exchanges at regular intervals for about 20 minutes, with locations shifting but never converging. The witness stayed inside, saw nothing, and interpreted the sounds as deliberate communication, discounting animals, falling branches, or humans.

During a late-season deer hunt, the witness parked and camped overnight in a van at the junction of Grand Canyon Road and Williams Gulch. Just after dark he heard loud, long screams repeated four or five times that he could not identify as any known animal. His dog refused to leave the van, and he saw no deer the next day.

The witness radioed his brother, who arrived and jointly watched the rock-throwing continue for about 30 minutes. Afterward they searched toward the source but found no tracks due to rocky ground and saw no thrower.

In November 1998 the witness and a companion were truck camping on a gravel overlook between two lakes to hunt elk. His nested cook pots were then heard clanging and later found unnested and spread out. After finding a long hair on his backpack Velcro he broke camp and drove to Red Bluff.

The witness and two relatives were on the back deck of a condo after a barbecue when a tall figure was seen moving down the slope. The figure glanced toward the group as it walked past and climbed over a wooden fence into a wooded ravine. The group went inside after all seeing the same figure.

Three college roommates hiked to the Thompson River to fish and camp overnight. After dark they repeatedly heard a childlike crying sound from a nearby ridge, had small river stones tossed into camp, and later heard loud knocks alternating with the cries. At daylight they hiked out, noticing concentrated scat and disturbed ground near oak trees, and concluded the activity was not from a person.

He heard heavy footsteps moving through leaves toward him that seemed bipedal and too heavy for a dog, and the sounds paused when he paused and then rushed as he reached his truck. After driving away, he saw a large dark upright figure standing in the road behind him in his rearview mirror.

The witness traveled to woods near Eagle Lake to camp overnight and listen for unusual sounds. In the afternoon he found elongated foot-like impressions, including one 12-inch print with four toes. After dark from a tree stand he heard repeated wood-on-wood strikes, a tree falling without cracking, footsteps uphill out of sight, and prolonged human-like hooting from multiple directions, followed by hours of silence. He left on foot around 3 a.m. without further incident.

The witness and a companion were walking a foot path around a lake in a small park. They found two large footprints crossing the path from the lake side into the woods and photographed them. The area was unusually quiet and the witness recalled feeling as if they were being watched.

Late at night three people walking on a gravel road smelled a strong foul odor. When they returned to the spot, a tall creature stood up from the roadside ditch, frightening them and causing them to flee. As they ran home they saw deer in a nearby cornfield and heard an extremely loud screeching-howling sound.

Two adults accompanied by two small children hiked to a cave mouth at night and then started back toward camp. About a tenth of a mile from the cave they heard a low 5 to 6 second moan or howl from behind and to the right, followed by a more distant dog bark and shorter deep grunt-like noises. They lifted the children onto their shoulders and hurried back without hearing further sounds.
