About 500 feet away, two jet-black figures were visible near the tops of two adjacent pine trees, first taken for bears. The witness took phone photos and watched for about a minute as the figures stayed mostly still while wiggling and appearing to hug the trunks, then left after the companion grew concerned, later concluding they looked like lean human-like silhouettes rather than bears or humans.

Two people driving home separately at night each reported seeing a large shadowy figure by the highway slip into the woods about a half-mile from home. They compared notes after arriving home and realized both had seen the same thing, but could provide no details beyond its large size and shadowy appearance. Two boys were gigging for fish in a shallow river at night when they heard splashing from objects thrown into the water. They shone flashlights across the river and saw an upright human-like creature bring down a dead tree into the river and move in the water. The boys fled to their cabin, and a tree not present the day before was seen in the river the next morning.

Around 1-2 a.m. the witness went to retrieve bags from a car near a carport and heard a snorting grunt. Backlit by a carport light, he saw a large wide shape that vocalized again, circled with him as he retrieved a rifle, then left toward the woods. Next morning he found disturbed ground suggesting large bipedal steps.

Late one night in June, the witness walked to a camping trailer to use the bathroom and noticed a tall upright figure moving nearby. The figure briefly turned at the waist and head toward her, apparently having heard the trailer door. She watched it for only a few seconds in poor light provided by a neighboring light.

A family camping at a wooded campsite was awakened around 4 a.m. by strange calling sounds and heavy footsteps behind their tent. After shouting, they heard heavy stomping retreat into the woods and fled to their car. They returned later that morning, heard heavy breathing and had a stick thrown toward them before retreating again, later finding disturbed garbage and an opened food packet before leaving.

Around midnight the witness was with two friends in a small forest near the house when they heard a large branch snap. The witness saw a tall outline about 15 to 20 feet away leaning with one arm against a tree and staring, then it turned and walked toward the road while the witness ran. Companions did not see the figure, and the next day the witness found fresh paths and broken and uprooted trees in the area.

The witness and his wife sat on his truck tailgate at a power-line clearing late at night when they heard snorting, brush breaking, and a loud growl/grunt moving up a steep hill toward them. The witness saw a large shadow moving on the slope in moonlight, heard breathing and stomping, and smelled a musky sour odor. After revving the truck engine the sounds crashed rapidly downhill, and the pair left, seeing deer run across the road as they drove out.
Memory told of a possible encounter while camping with friends near LaFollette
The witness and three companions were sitting by a dying campfire late at night when a dog ran back into camp frightened. They then noticed a tall shadowy figure just beyond the firelight that turned to face them, showing eye reflection and a strong foul wet-animal odor. After staring for under a minute, the figure ran upslope through brush breaking branches, while the group shouted and then kept the fire up all night.

A foul odor was noticed as it passed, and broken branches were found the next morning.

Four college geology students camping at night heard howling from a canyon and then saw the outline of a huge bipedal animal on the road in moon and campfire light. When the animal approached, one student fired a rifle several times, after which it crossed the road and moved noisily up the opposite slope through brush. A responding deputy examined the area the next day and reported indistinct impressions, small pushed-over trees and long uphill strides, but no blood or fur.

In the summer of 1959 the witness was working as a counselor at a wooded Girl Scout camp. Over roughly two weeks, staff repeatedly heard footsteps moving through the tent area after dark, saw a dark figure near a hut, and found a director's tent ransacked, with deputies searching each day without finding anyone. On the final night the group heard extremely loud screams that moved from near a remote tent toward a pond and creek and found a large maple branch freshly broken off, leading the witness years later to wonder if the visitor had been a Bigfoot.
