A family was camped in a trailer near a treeline with a deer carcass stored nearby. During the night the family was awakened by rocks hitting the trailer, knocking sounds, growls, screams and whoops. The witness later went outside with a flashlight and saw a single glowing red eye high in the treeline. In the morning stacked rocks were gone, footprints were found, and a large pine by the carcass had been pushed over.

After a child's whoops received an immediate whoop reply nearby, two adults who stayed behind briefly heard something approach closely then step away, seeing nothing with lights. On the night of Jan. 13, 2014, the witness spotlighted a distant field from home and saw red eye shine that reacted to the light. After retrieving a relative, the two drove to a pond with tall reeds about 300 yards away and again picked up eye shine high in the reeds. They watched the eyes blink and move low through a creek embankment from left to right, but could see no body because of distance. The witness recorded about a minute of phone video and estimated eye height the next day at 7.5 to 8 feet based on reed height.

The witness then saw a large grey shape move quickly and silently between cover, followed by a large splash near the dock. The source of the eyes stood upright to a great height, looked toward them, then walked into the adjoining woods. After leaving, they returned for a size comparison with a 6-foot companion walking toward the treeline while the others watched from the truck; the figure reappeared, stood up and towered over the companion before leaving into the woods again.

Two companions were driving at night in a doorless vehicle when they made a wrong turn onto a dead-end road. As they turned around, the passenger alerted the driver to eyeshine behind a large tree caught in the headlights. The driver then saw large eyes about six feet off the ground and a large brown shape behind the tree. Both were frightened and did not get a prolonged look.

Late one summer evening in 1998, a couple lying in bed in their trailer heard repeated loud screams and their dogs became highly agitated. The husband went outside with a flashlight and saw red-orange eyeshine well above normal human face height, then a tall upright shadow running toward the southwest. No further screams occurred and the dogs stayed agitated for 10-15 minutes. The couple decided not to call emergency services.
