Late-night frog hunters experience possible territorial behavior north of Rimrock
The witness and two companions were walking upstream frog gigging at night when they noticed a musky odor and heard heavy movement ahead in dense brush. Three rocks were thrown from above across the creek, followed by crashing movement across the water and another rock landing nearby in the creek. An unseen very large mover then rushed toward them through thick brush, prompting the group to leave for their vehicle.

The witness was camping alone overnight and heard repeated strange calls late at night over about 35 minutes that seemed to move closer. The sounds did not match known local animals to the witness. The witness captured part of the sounds on a digital voice recorder and searched the area the next day without finding other campers.
Long howls heard just outside Prescott
The witness and spouse were in their bedroom with the window open late at night when they heard prolonged howls from a distance. The howls repeated over several minutes and prompted neighborhood dogs to bark. The couple said the sound did not match familiar wildlife and later felt it closely resembled a howl sample on a website.
Possible vocalization along the Verde River, near Dead Horse Ranch State Park
Late at night the witness stepped outside the house and heard a low, loud whooing vocalization coming from the river bottoms that lasted about a minute. As soon as the sound stopped, neighborhood dogs and distant coyotes began barking and howling at once. The witness stayed inside that night and found nothing further when checking the tree line the next morning.
Camping family glimpses a grey animal twice in three days
The witness was camping with kids on Oak Creek in July 2005. On two nights after 10 p.m. the witness and her daughter saw a short grey slender shape dash behind trees and run toward cover near the river, followed once by a thud and high-pitched shrieks. The family also heard patterned rock clicks and nearby walking and breathing, and noticed a skunk-like odor. The family became frightened and packed to leave.
Two hunters hear strange screams
The witness and a family member were trying to sleep in a camp trailer during an archery deer hunting trip when they heard loud, piercing, wavering screams from the woods behind the trailer. The screams occurred three or four times and did not match any familiar animal sounds. They inspected the area the next day but found nothing unusual.
A troop of Boy Scouts observe a large humanoid track
During a multi-day Boy Scout hiking trip through a remote canyon in 1977, the witness and companions found a single very large human-like bare footprint in mud beside the creek. They compared its size and depth to the witness's boot, estimated it was less than a day old, but found no other tracks, hair, or sign. After about 30 minutes they continued the hike, remaining vigilant.
