Three hunters were sleeping in a tent at an elk hunting camp when one stepped out around 2:30 a.m. to urinate and swept a flashlight around the perimeter. An unseen animal nearby emitted an extremely loud, long scream lasting about 10-12 seconds and fled through dense timber up a steep ridge, continuing to scream from a great distance. The sound woke multiple nearby camps and was described as unlike any bear or cougar, and no sign was found the next morning on frozen ground.

The witness heard heavy running and breathing pass the RV and noticed moonlight through the windows dim briefly, then later the companion's son fled his tent to the RV reporting tree-banging, movement, darkness at the tent, and a voice imitation. No one saw anything, and the next morning knocking elicited whistle replies from the woods.
