Wood knocks heard by hunter near Appalachian Trail 7 miles SE of Hiawassee

The witness was hunting hogs alone on a food plot in the afternoon. He heard two loud wood-on-wood knocks from a mountainside about a quarter mile away, followed about thirty seconds later by a fainter knock from the opposite ridge. He reported no other vehicles in the area and noted there were no roads or trails where the first knocks originated.
