Possible vocalizations heard outside Chapel Hill
Around 2 a.m. the witness heard a long, horrible call she associated with Bigfoot calls played on television shows. Shortly afterward she heard a second, higher-pitched strange cry she said she had never heard except on TV. A daughter living two houses away was also awake and heard the sound, though from farther away.

The witness and companions were riding 4-wheelers on a large ranch around midnight when one vehicle got stuck in mud. While waiting, the witness heard a single long loud moaning sound from a distance. A companion present did not hear the sound. Days later the witness said the sound matched a long moaning recording on a research website.
