Local couple hear loud knocks from different directions in Coeur d' Alene Mountains, 5 miles north of Osburn
The witness and a companion were playing cribbage on their truck tailgate on a mountain ridge in the afternoon when they heard loud knocks from different directions. After the second knock they walked toward the sound and the witness produced a howl and a knock, which was quickly answered by another knock. They then heard an additional knock from the opposite side of the truck and left the area after hearing nothing more.
Camper hears Wood Knocks, Whoops and has a possible sighting on the St. Joe River
On August 8, 2020 at about 9:30 p.m., the witness was camping alone near the Saint Joe River when he heard three loud, drawn-out whoops from the hillside above and to the east over his music. He turned off his speaker and heard no further vocalizations, and the area became very quiet. He made a whooping sound back, received no answer, and it remained quiet the rest of the night. No other campers were nearby.
Family hears "Ohio Howls" in the historic Marble Creek drainage, 47 mi SE of Coeur d’Alene
The witness was camping with family along Marble Creek near Avery in July 2019. While preparing dinner at dusk, she heard repeated long siren-like howls echoing from higher elevation. She could not match the sound to known owls or large animals, and her dog hid under the table. She later compared it to the Ohio Howl recording on the BFRO site.
Couple hears strange night time howls across stream from their home
On a winter evening at home, the witness went outside with the dog and heard prolonged loud howling he did not recognize. He brought his wife to listen, and they later heard what sounded like two separate sources calling from across a gulch while neighborhood dogs barked. After comparing internet animal sounds they felt the howls most closely resembled an alleged Ohio howl recording, but a later check of the area found no tracks.

In August 1981 the witness rode a motorcycle up forest roads to a high peak near the North Fork. Near the treeline he uncovered a large old barefoot-like track and later from the summit saw a head-and-shoulders shadow watching from the dark treeline. The shape was gone when he looked back after viewing the panorama, and he rode quickly back down the mountain.
