Whoops and knocks at campground near Julian
While camping near town, the reporter waited outside a restroom before dawn and heard a loud tree knock from the north. Shortly after returning to the trailer, the reporter and a companion heard a single whoop from the east, followed by a brief burst of calling jays. Later that morning the group heard additional knocks and whoops from the west, southeast, and south.

The witness was camping with his wife and sister-in-law when he was awakened around 3:14 a.m. to accompany his wife to the restroom. While preparing to leave the tent he heard 4 or 5 loud wood-knock-like sounds spaced a few seconds apart, followed by faint voice-like gibberish with grunts. His sister-in-law later confirmed she also heard the knocking sounds.
Boundary Peak area, three witnesses observe strange humanlike tracks
While camping, three people waded across a flooded creek after climbing a nearby peak and noticed a set of blurred, fuzzy-edged footprints on the far side that had not been present an hour earlier. The prints were roughly human-foot sized. Later that evening they discussed the find around a campfire with a passing patrol agent, who said similar prints were known locally as Little Foot.
Camper on Mount Palomar reports heavy biped running through campground late at night
About 1988 the witness and a companion were tent camping on Palomar Mountain. Late at night while settled in the tent, the witness heard fast, very heavy footsteps run through camp. The companion slept through the noise, and no footprints or other evidence were found the next morning.

A family living in a thinly populated brushy area reported encountering three hairy upright creatures in their yard at night while calling for a pet dog. An animal initially mistaken for the dog stood up and walked away to join two larger individuals, and all three left into the brush. The account was relayed to night-shift deputies by the head of the household, who described the group as differing in size.
