The main witness was bicycling to work in the early morning when he heard heavy steps coming from the woods beside the road. He stopped and shone a flashlight toward the sound, and the source moved back into the woods breaking branches while making grunting noises. He was frightened and rode away quickly.

Single car accident in Big Thicket National Preserve
The driver claimed a dark upright figure stood in the middle of the highway in the early morning and did not move when honked at. The driver swerved to miss the figure at close range, left the highway and rolled into the woods. Emergency responders found the driver still in the car, who described the encounter after regaining consciousness.
