The witness was camping alone in a hammock in the Citico Creek area late at night when he heard heavy movement coming down a steep overgrown hillside across the trail. The source moved parallel to the trail, crossed to his side, and circled his camp intermittently for several hours despite a fire being built to scare it off. He never saw the source because vegetation made a flashlight useless, but judged from the heaviness of the sounds that it was not a known animal. He left at sunrise.
