On a clear cold night in fall 1971, a group of students gathered at a party spot on Green Hill Road claimed a large hairy creature grabbed one member who had stepped into the woods. Another member reported seeing the animal standing about 20 feet away in a spotlight, prompting the group to flee into town. Later that night a larger group with law officers returned to search the woods but reported seeing nothing, and officers warned them to leave.
