Two people hiking in the morning heard a repeated loud alarm-like holler ending each time in a strange ape- and human-like vocalization. The witness imitated the sound a few times, and both listeners concluded it could not be human or a wolf/coyote due to lung capacity and lip-like articulation. Believing the source sounded closer and could be a large unknown animal, they ran back to the car without seeing anyone else on the trail.
Vocalizations near Scenic interrupt a camper’s quiet evening
On August 24 at dusk the witness was preparing dinner at a forest-edge campsite when a very loud ascending swooping cry came from the hillside above, followed by several higher shrieks. The witness felt watched during dinner and again when returning to the same spot two nights later, though nothing further was heard. An investigator later visited the area and reported a possible large footprint on the hillside.
Hiker Hears Loud Vocalizations and Thumps
The witness sat near a swamp waiting for frogs to resume and heard rapid deep thumping from a hillside across the swamp, followed by a second similar series some distance away on the same hill. Shortly after, a short constant hollow call came from each thumping area in turn. The witness stated the sounds were not woodpeckers and asked whether such thumping indicates proximity.

The witness and a relative were hiking on a logging road and stopped to rest when they heard a close deep moaning and groaning sound but saw nothing. As they hurried back down the trail with a feeling of being followed, they heard a loud scream behind them, then additional screams from the west and southeast. They returned to their truck and drove home.

A youth camping group spent the night in a clearing near dense blackberry brush. Late at night the reporter and companions heard movement approaching through the brush, then retreated to sleeping bags. Overnight two unseen creatures reportedly entered camp, vocalized softly, disturbed food supplies, and stepped on and touched one sleeping girl who remained awake while others slept. At dawn no footprints were found on dry ground.

The witness was walking alone on a spring morning near Scenic, Washington when an extremely loud sound was heard three times from about half a block away near old railroad bunkhouses. The sound was described as starting like a roar and rising to a shrill pitch, repeated with short pauses. The witness did not see the source and could not identify it as any known local animal.
