Strange sounds heard over the course of that summer

The witness was at home at night when called outside by a relative to listen to a distant low moaning howl lasting several minutes while many dogs barked. The sound seemed to fade as if moving away and frightened the witness. No creature was seen and no tracks were found. The witness states similar howls occurred a couple more times that summer.
