The witness was sitting with two companions around a fire behind the house near a wooded swamp late at night. They repeatedly heard a long whoop-like growling sound from the woods but saw nothing. The first occurrence was in late summer 2008, and similar sounds were heard again in March 2009.

Morning dog walkers hear repeated vocalizations and find scat near Oak Harbor
A couple left their house before dawn to walk their dogs and noticed a strong decay-like smell. From woods on opposite sides of the road they heard two loud calls answering each other for several minutes. Frightened, they returned inside with the dogs, and an hour later both the smell and sounds were gone.
