Possible howl heard on the Duck River while camping

The witness and a companion were camping overnight along a river at around 2 a.m. under a full moon. They heard dogs barking across the river, then a loud deep howl lasting nearly ten seconds. Afterwards all animal sounds stopped and remained silent for hours, and the howl was not heard again.
