Possible vocalization in Great Smoky Mountain National Park

Two campers watched deer remain fixated and agitated toward a mountain trail for about five minutes before calming. As the witnesses walked back toward camp, they heard a single long, echoing primate-like call from the dark woods in the direction the deer had stared. The witness later compared it to a gibbon call but with more body, and said he had never heard anything like it despite extensive time outdoors.
