Possible vocalization 4 miles north of Pawling, heard from Appalachian Trail
The witness was hiking alone at night on the Appalachian Trail on the return trip down Corbin Hill. Around 9pm the witness heard a single loud 15-second vocalization that began low as a howl and rose higher as a scream. The witness compared it to a deeper gibbon call and said it did not sound like an owl or coyote. No visual contact or further vocalizations were reported, and the witness stated they could not confirm the source.
Dusk and evening sightings around Stissing Mountain
In late spring 1985 the witness and a companion were driving in daylight when a tall figure crossed the road in a few strides and entered a field. They reached the spot seconds later but the figure had disappeared from the open field. The witness later described the figure as tall, heavy, hunched and dark with obscured facial features.

The witness was camping overnight with family members and dogs near a lake and trail. Around 1 a.m. while awake in his tent, he heard footsteps approaching from the woods and passing behind a relative's tent, with no flashlight visible, while a dog whined and reacted. No creature was seen. He interpreted the sounds as a bipedal creature.
