Hunters have Intimidation Encounter in Southhampton Township
In December 2001 four hunters were leaving the woods along a logging road after dark when something in the adjacent swamp repeatedly screamed and charged toward them while breaking branches. The group was armed but could not see the source, felt the ground shake, and described the screams as extremely loud and frightening. After several bluff charges, the source moved deeper into the swamp and the hunters left the area.
Campers in the Pine Barrens hear loud, terrible scream
The witness was sleeping outside on the fringe of a large group camp in a remote pine forest when awakened around 1:30 a.m. by a loud, unfamiliar scream and sounds of a large animal moving through brush within about 20 yards. Too frightened to look, the witness hid in a sleeping bag. A similar scream was heard again one to two hours later farther off, and other campers also reported hearing the wails.

Four people camped overnight along a trail in the New Jersey pine barrens heard an odd high-pitched scream for about ten minutes late at night. They also heard something large moving through thick brush about 20-25 yards away, pausing at intervals as it passed the campsite, but dim light prevented any visual identification. The sound eventually faded away and the group did not investigate that night or the next day.
Possible Nightime Encounter In Wharton State Forest
When the witness was 14, he camped alone in a forested area and noticed something in the brush paralleling him as he returned to camp near dark. The presence circled the camp and later approached the tent, producing an extremely loud scream followed by growls and chatter, then retreated after the frightened witness yelled back. The witness stayed awake all night, left at first light, and never saw what made the sounds.

The witness was bowhunting from a climbing tree stand at dusk when he heard extremely loud screams and heavy footsteps moving around his stand within 50 yards. Frightened, he jumped from the stand and retreated toward the road while the unseen source paralleled him and continued screaming. At the road his hunting companion was waiting on top of the vehicle, having also heard the vocalizations.
