Witness describes possible call-and-answer vocalizations near Cleveland (Tennessee)

Four family members were talking on the back porch of a home at night when they heard an extremely loud scream from woods a few hundred yards away. The initial scream was answered by a second similar call from farther down the road, with calls going back and forth several times. The witness, who grew up in the country, said he had never heard anything like it and did not believe it was a mule or donkey.
