Man describes daylight sighting by father (elk hunter) near Clarkia

In 1972 the father was hunting on a trail with the mother when he saw a large black hair-covered creature standing behind a small tree staring at him through his rifle scope. He watched it motionless for about a minute and a half before it disappeared from view, then left the area with the mother without telling her at the time. The father reportedly quit hunting and other outdoor activities afterward and rarely discussed the incident.
