After hearing a distant screeching sound and then a loud scream, they saw a short, heavy creature about 50 yards away that charged toward them. They ran back to a clearing where the pursuit stopped, then put out their campfire and left for the night.

The driver reacted with surprise at the time but has since said he saw nothing. The whole crossing reportedly took about 10 seconds.

From about 150 feet above, the witness watched a dark brown, upright, hair-covered figure moving slowly through heavy brush below. When the witness shouted to the companion, the figure looked up showing a human-like face, then left quickly through the brush before the companion could see it.
