The witness was sitting on a hillside above a creek outside Dunsmuir in the afternoon. From about 300 yards away he watched a tall, dark, hairy figure squatting at the creek grabbing fish for several minutes. When the witness moved to get binoculars, the figure stood and ran on two legs with large leaps out of view. The witness did not go down to the site because the slope was too steep.

A team of four was conducting a nighttime sound survey from a clear-cut overlooking a river valley while one member did a live radio interview from a parked vehicle near the treeline. The interviewer heard repeated charging sounds, footfalls and a grunt-growl from dense brush a few feet away while two teammates uphill watched with a night-vision device. The uphill observers reported a huge 8-foot-plus figure about 25 feet away leaning side to side to look through the trees and moving its arms. The episode lasted about 30 minutes, followed later by a distant scream, and a next-day search found disturbed soil but no footprints.

The witness and her father were hiking back toward Kennedy Meadows Campground after crossing the river upstream when the witness noticed unusual barefoot-like prints in the forest between the river and the Pacific Crest Trail. They heard repeated thumping and noticed treetops moving along a ravine about 200 yards away, then briefly watched a huge bipedal figure with swinging arms run downhill toward the lake and disappear while footfalls remained audible. The witness radioed for the bus and left with the group, later quitting the job to avoid being alone on the mountain.

While deer hunting, the witness found many large tracks and followed them to a hidden hillside spring in a dry area. The water was murky as if recently disturbed, and the witness also found dung with an unusual sweet smell that was collected for testing. The witness and a companion were fishing from rocks in a river near cabins in the afternoon when they noticed a large upright creature standing in heavy brush on the far bank about 15 feet away watching them. The creature briefly rubbed its face with a hand before both individuals fled to the cabin to alert their guide, but it was gone when the guide returned with a rifle.

Six people camping at a forested lake campground heard a repeating whistle-whoop followed by an intense screech three times overnight, first from across a meadow, then from behind camp, then from very close to the tents. Each time they searched with flashlights and a spotlight but saw no eyes or movement apart from a small fox on the road. The next morning they found no tracks or other sign around the site and lake shore, and later doubted the fox could have made such intense sounds.
Truck driver has a short but memorable encounter
A semi-truck driver pulled over at a desert highway pullout at night and got out of the truck. He heard rocks falling, noticed a strong decaying odor that became gagging, and saw a large hairy biped cross the road in front of his headlights while making a loud grunt. Frightened, he got back in the truck and drove away.

The witness and son were on a trail about a quarter mile from the river and stopped so the son could tie his shoe. The witness then noticed movement 150-200 feet away by a large old redwood stump and discerned a mass with a human-like torso from the waist up, apparently scratching its back against the stump. After gaining a back and profile view, the witness became fearful and both fled down the trail for about thirty seconds to a minute.

The witness was driving north and pulled off near Edgewood to eat and nap in the parked car. The witness awoke around 1:30AM to a rock hitting the hood, then turned on the headlights and saw a tall chocolate-colored creature watching nearby. After about 20-30 seconds it walked away into brush in a few long strides, and the witness left and later contacted authorities.

The witness parked by a river to fish for steelhead on a rainy winter afternoon and heard two loud whoop-like bellows. While wading downstream the witness saw two tall, hair-covered figures standing motionless across the river and noticed a cocoon-like bundle of grass on a root wad. After fishing back upstream the witness looked back to find the figures and object gone, and a return visit the next day was blocked by flooding.
