The witness was driving south at night with relatives in two separate trucks when bright headlights revealed a very large animal in the median. As the truck approached, the creature was seen crouched over what looked like a dead deer and then turned to look toward the vehicle. A companion in the other truck confirmed immediately by phone that he had seen the same thing.

Three young men were camping by a pond at night when they heard a loud moaning yell twice, followed by fast bipedal footsteps approaching. They turned on the truck's headlights and saw a six-foot-tall hair-covered creature with long arms about 20 yards away in a hollow. After watching for about 10 seconds, they fled in the truck.
Man and wife have separate strange encounters in same area
In the early morning the witness was at a rental mobile home property with his wife to check on tenants and let dogs out. The dogs refused to leave the porch while reacting to movement in an adjacent tobacco field. The witness saw a large hunched furred figure with a rounded back in the field and a smaller figure moving away, and heard exchanging chuffing vocalizations and a distressed mewling sound from the field and from across the road near a creek. The figures moved toward tall grass and the tree line, a tree across the road shook as if climbed, a musty odor was noticed, and mashed grass trails were found the next morning.

The witness was sitting at a mountain camp near water around midday when they noticed a bear-like odor and spotted movement on a nearby ridge. A dark, almost black figure initially mistaken for a man stood up from the ground and walked calmly across the ridgetop, close enough for footstep sounds to be heard, before descending out of sight. The witness emphasized the figure was much larger than a bear.

Two men had finished dredging for gold and were talking when they noticed a large dark creature about 100 feet away partly behind a dead tree and tailings pile. The creature reached up and snapped off a tree limb, looked at them for 10 to 20 seconds while a strong smell was present, then turned and walked into the woods. They stayed in the area for two more weeks with no further sightings but reported smelling it several times.

The witness was working horses near the barn on an overcast afternoon when the mares looked toward the woods. The witness saw an upright light-grey figure at the tree line, first thought to be a teenager in a heavy coat, but noted long hair-like covering and non-human swaying. The figure ran rapidly across the field edge twice, dropping from upright to all fours and back upright without breaking stride.

When he closed to about a hundred yards, the animal stood on two feet and ran silently into the woods. He noticed roadkill in the road and a foul smell that he said might have come from the roadkill, then drove away quickly.

A young resident walking home late at night from a locked campground gate along a creek was followed by a creature that made heavy bipedal splashes, approached closely and grabbed at a bag of candy, leaving a bruise. Around 10:30 at night in 1987, the witness was walking home along a tractor path on a ridge after frog gigging. At a gap by the woods line about 12 feet away, a tall black bipedal figure stood up, looked at the witness for about ten seconds, then turned and ran quickly into the woods with audible wide steps. The frightened witness ran home.

Two companions hiking toward a creek to fly-fish watched a large whitish animal cross the trail about 50 yards ahead and remain visible for several seconds while moving on all fours. It was described as bear-sized with shaggy light hair, a flat sparsely haired face with no muzzle or visible ears, and very long legs. Shortly afterward limbs in a nearby tree shook vigorously, but the animal was not seen again.

Two people were walking through the woods when they came to a clearing. They saw a sasquatch-like figure walking across the far side of the clearing that did not look toward them. The witnesses quickly fled the scene.

The witness, then 17, was driving home late at night on a rural road and noticed something on the roadside that was first mistaken for a deer or cow. As the car passed, the figure stood up from a hunched position, and after the witness stopped past it and reversed, it was seen walking into the road behind the car within about 25 to 30 yards. The witness described it as much larger than a person, about 6.5 to 7 feet tall and very wide, and frightened, drove away quickly toward the highway.

The witness stopped for a break by a creek in the Cherokee National Forest in the afternoon, smelled a strong musty urine odor and heard a close low grunt. A large black-and-gray upright figure with humanlike facial features watched the witness from underbrush for 1-2 minutes before turning and leaving through thick brush. The witness retreated to a vehicle and later estimated the figure was at least seven feet tall from measuring the standing spot.
