Turkey hunter has tense early morning sighting near Shimek State Forest
The witness was turkey hunting at dawn on a wet, still morning when he heard a rhythmic sound like footsteps approaching up a valley. A tall upright creature came into view about 50 yards away, stopped, stared at him, and crouched after he clicked off his shotgun safety before continuing on and disappearing. He did not shoot, then ran back to his truck. He later described a foul smell lingering after the encounter.

A couple driving on an unimproved road in the early morning smelled a strong odor and then saw a large hairy creature standing beside the trail about 50 yards ahead. The creature looked toward them briefly before turning and walking away into cover with long strides. The husband later described the encounter to an investigator by phone, while the wife declined to discuss it because she was frightened.

On a moonlit night in summer 1970, the witness was on a road by a cornfield with a companion when a large brownish creature was heard and then seen running across the road, down a ditch, over a fence and into the cornfield. The creature had a foul smell. The witness returned the next day and found large smudged footprints in the road and cornfield.
