A large dark figure moved away toward a creek, crossed without an audible splash, and was seen again briefly about 100 feet away on the far bank. The figure walked on two legs and then moved silently out of sight, leaving no footprints on damp leaves. The witness found a large decayed log apparently moved at the first location and then returned to the truck.

In summer 1987, the witness and two companions were resting on a rock after swimming and fishing at a swimming hole on the Gauley River when the area went quiet. They saw a large, dark-brown, two-legged animal standing in a clearing across the river watching them for about two minutes before it left up the bank and out of hearing up the hillside. The next day the witness revisited the spot and judged the animal had been at least seven feet tall.

He raced to a more open trail and looked back to see a very tall, shaggy reddish-brown creature with dark bare facial skin standing at the tree line watching him. He reported a horrible stench filling the air and an absence of normal forest sounds, saying the sighting lasted about half a minute and left him avoiding the woods for months.

The witness went to the bottom of a hill near a relative's home at Canton Lake to smoke. After hearing a crushing and rustling noise, the witness saw a tall black bipedal being about twenty yards away that looked at the witness and raised its arms. The witness then ran back up the hill to the relative's home.

They went to the fencerow to investigate and found reddish hair on barbed wire and a small pine twisted and knocked over high up.
