The witness filmed an unclear figure near a work site in a remote forested area. The witness showed the tape to family, after which others in the community and media became aware of it. An investigator later viewed the full tape and described it as blurry and small in frame but showing additional movements.

While hunting deer from a tree stand in the afternoon, the witness noticed movement in a large tree about sixty yards away. He watched for about six seconds a dark, chimpanzee-like primate about three to four feet tall standing erect on a branch. The animal appeared to look toward him before turning and disappearing into foliage; its feet and lower legs were not visible.

The witness was waiting just inside a woodline while squirrel hunting when heavy walking approached. A tall white-covered creature with dark skin on the face and hands stood nearby with a hand on a tree and was observed for about 30 seconds. Two people in separate boats traveling along the shore of a remote lake reported seeing a gray shape that frightened them. The account was covered in a local newspaper in early July 1997 and was later summarized by an investigator who noted the witnesses were reluctant to speak with the press. Polaroid photographs are reported to have been seen by local residents, but the report provides no further descriptive detail.

On July 16, 1997, a tour guide driving tourists along a road stopped near a burned-out bridge and watched an upright, hair-covered creature for about 15 minutes from 70 to 80 yards away. The guide moved the bus forward and backward to give passengers views and tried to get a passenger with a telephoto lens to exit for photos, but no one would leave. The guide then drove away and could not relocate the creature on a later return.

Two people driving west toward work observed a creature moving east on the roadside, running while bobbing in and out of the ditch. They slowed for a closer look but could not identify it. They reported it was not a bear or human and was unfamiliar to them despite knowing local animals. The area was described as swampy.
Late night sighting by motorists on Austin Road in Geneva
A mother driving her son home at night watched a very large hair-covered animal cross the road in the headlights about 150 feet away. The witnesses saw it from the neck down, describing a bulky build, dark coloration, a swinging left arm, and crossing the road in about two and a half steps. An investigator later visited the same location and needed almost nine steps to cross the same stretch.

Two companions were walking in a rural area at night and noticed something following them for an extended distance while hearing movement in nearby brush. Only the companion reportedly saw the figure, described as a very tall biped that emerged from the tree line at close range. He did not mention it at the time and told the other walker about it years later.
Teens fire at big black thing peeking in window of home
The witness and a companion were alone at the witness's parents' house at night when they saw a head looking in through the front door. They retreated to a bedroom without curtains where they heard breathing and scratching and saw a hairy hand against the window screen. The companion fired two shots that missed, and the figure ran away. A sheriff who responded found bullet holes but no blood or footprints.
Motorist's sighting results in a collision
In 1960, a man claimed to encounter a very hairy figure on the Pottawatomie Indian Reserve northwest of Topeka, Kansas. He was reportedly so frightened that he drove across a yard and struck a clothesline. The account survives only as an excerpt from a published book.
