He watched for about ten seconds while they stood side by side swaying, then ran downstairs and outside but they were gone. On July 16, 1997, a tour guide driving tourists along a road stopped near a burned-out bridge and watched an upright, hair-covered creature for about 15 minutes from 70 to 80 yards away. The guide moved the bus forward and backward to give passengers views and tried to get a passenger with a telephoto lens to exit for photos, but no one would leave. The guide then drove away and could not relocate the creature on a later return.

Later, while in a tent, the witness saw the firelight blocked by a squatting silhouette that touched the zipper with five digits, with felt breath and strong odor, before withdrawing. In the morning the witness noted hairs and deep depressions on the trail.

Two large human-like footprints were found in mud where a wide trail of broken vegetation came down a hill to the road. The writer photographed both prints, cast the left one, and collected a hair from between the toes for analysis.

The witness was fishing on the north bank of a river when a dog on the south bank barked at brush and confronted an upright, hair-covered animal. The animal knocked the dog down, emitted a ticking sound and a musky odor, then walked into the woods where the witness lost sight of it while wearing waders. The witness later found the dog with blood on it and reported seeing a taped-off police search at the site.
