Driving along a secluded road at night, couple's car almost strikes creature crossing road

A couple driving late at night on a secluded dirt road saw a hairy biped step into their headlights. It paused in front of the car, turned its head to look at them, then continued across the road into the woods. Both occupants watched the brief crossing and described a brown-haired, ape-like figure about six feet tall with very long arms.
