Late at night the witness was summoned to the back porch by a relative and shone a spotlight toward a large oak about 30 yards away. A tall hair-covered upright figure stood partly behind the tree, repeatedly peeking out as the light moved, then stepped fully into view facing them before retreating behind the tree and fleeing through the woods. The next morning the witness found two large footprints behind the tree and another unclear print nearby.

A family driving back to their mountain cabin at night rounded a turn and saw a tall, dark-haired biped walking on the roadside. All four family members watched it take several strides on the pavement before it left the shoulder and went down toward a creek without acknowledging them. The parents had glimpsed a similar figure in nearly the same spot the previous night. The next day the family found slide marks and a broken branch near the creek and learned another family had also seen the creature.

The witness and a companion were parked in a truck at a mountain road landing late at night and watched a wild boar rooting in snow. After the boar fled, an upright figure appeared at the tree line, stood over the boar's spot, and was then illuminated by high beams. The figure blocked the light, showed glowing eyes, grunted, crossed the road in three strides, grabbed a sapling and disappeared uphill, leaving a strong odor.

In late spring 1970, two people sightseeing by car on Highway 441 near the Tennessee-North Carolina state line claimed a tall, slender hair-covered biped crossed the road in front of them. The creature walked upright on two legs from the right side to the left without looking at them, then continued into roadside bushes where only its head remained briefly visible. The witnesses estimated its height at about seven feet and noted clean straight walnut-brown hair, long arms, and lack of a visible neck.
