Sighting by a motorist

The witness was driving on Route 95 through forested wilderness in early evening daylight. A large, dark, hairy creature crossed the southbound lanes from the treed median to the woods, moving swiftly, smoothly and fully erect. The witness stopped the car and looked into the woods where it went but saw no further trace. Three companions in the car were dozing and did not see it.
