Two hikers both hear strange sounds in a creek culvert, investigate to see two ape-like creatures sitting at far end of culvert

At sunset the witness and a companion were hiking along a creek when they heard singing coming from a culvert. They approached and looked through the culvert and saw the silhouettes of two ape-like creatures with glowing eyes crouched at the far end, swaying and humming. The witnesses left quickly so as not to disturb them.
